Well, as far as this “blog” thing is concerned.
And, I know… You’ve heard that before. Maybe not twelve times, but a good few.
(TBH, I picked “twelve times” because I’m kind of fascinated by the way the word “twelfth” is spelled. Look at it up there in the title. It looks ridiculous.)
The old blog posts, the handful of them, are around. There’s a button around here to click, I’m sure. My web guy is really good about buttons. And, for the record, he’s also really good about updates. I, however, am not.
Look, shit happens. Especially when you’re not so successful of a writer as to make the writer thing your whole job.
It’s been nearly two years since my last blog post, and as long or longer since I updated the website. Back then I still used Twitter. Fuck, back then it had only just stopped being called “Twitter.” Back then… man… back then wasn’t so long ago but shit sure was way less fucked up.
I might get into that in another post.
Or I might not. Let’s be real with each other, we all know there’s a solid chance it will be two years before the next post.
Anyway, it’s been a pretty busy two years. Christen and I had just moved into the Detroit house and we’ve been doing a lot of work turning it into a home. Just in time, too, since I proposed last September and we’re getting hitched on Halloween!
Back to that job thing… I got a new one. And when I talk about this job, I wish I were talking about the writing or the music, but it that “other” one. The one that pays the bills and provides health insurance (shitty health insurance, but insurance just the same). Learning the new people and the new processes and the new systems has kept me busy but I’ve pretty much settled into the groove now.
And, of course, there have been the normal bits of life that happen. Births and deaths and vacations and car trouble and kids and parents and friends and concerts and… you get the idea.
From an author perspective, it’s been steady.
American Ghost Stories: True Tales From All 50 States published in September of 2023 and sales have been good. My publisher, Visible Ink Press, did a great job of managing the publicity and it was a blast being on various podcasts and radio shows. It still gives me a thrill to walk into a B&N and find my book on the shelf.
While I was working on the second book I had under contract with Visible Ink, an unexplained mysteries of America thing, they asked if I’d be interested in completing a Bigfoot book. The original author had passed, but he and his family wanted to see it completed.
I was honored to co-author Bigfoot Sightings: True Tales from Across America with Jim Willis. As of this writing, it’s only about a month and a half away from being released (mid-August, 2025) and I’ve already got my hands on some ARCs. It’s pretty cool.
I took a break to work on a fiction project that, for now, is top secret, and now I’m barreling toward finishing the “mysteries” book (I have a September deadline, that I am almost certain to miss. But it should be close.)
I’m going to take a break from the paranormal reality genre, after this next one, and work on a few horror fiction ideas I’ve been anxious to get. I also wrote about a dozen songs over the last 18 months or so and am working on building a music studio in the house, so I can record an album. I’ve also been toying with the idea of a podcast.
I know absolutely nothing about recording and mixing an album, and even less about doing a podcast. The figuring it out is most of the fun, though. Just like the writing.
That, basically, gets you caught up. If you really want to know the day-to-day stuff, follow me on Facebook. It’s where I’m most active these days. And, seriously, I’ll try to be better about the blog but…
If you haven’t checked out the website in a while, have a look around. We’ve made some updates, and we should be doing so more often. Check out the store (there are new offerings) and sign up for the Faithful Few Mailing List! I send emails about as frequently as I blog, so you don’t have to worry about being spammed to death. Worst case, you get a free story out of the deal.
Thanks for taking the time to read my post. And, even more, thanks for reading my books and stories. If you have comments, or just want to bullshit about something, reach out on social media or through the website.
Oh! If you have read my work, please take a minute to leave a review on Amazon or Goodreads or wherever. Those things go a long way to getting the work in front of other eyes.
